As your journey into Ghost of Yotei begins, you will find out immediately that your quest is to kill the Yotei Six. The Yotei Six are the main villains of the game that Atsu has sworn vengeance against after they killed her family and left her for dead. Yet, with an open world and a non-linear path, players might not know where to start. We’ve decided to list the best place to start to fight the Yotei Six in Ghost of Yotei without involving any spoilers, so you know which way the wind should be taking you.
Where Should You Start in Ghost of Yotei?
Interrogate to Find Out More Information From Enemies
We decided to start our journey in the Ishikari Plain to find the Oni, the man who tried to burn Atsu alive. There are a multitude of reasons why players should start in the Ishikari Plain to find the Oni. Firstly, this is the closest region from the starting area of Atsu’s home in the Yotei Grasslands, as players need to travel north east to locate a closed gate with the samurai Matsumae clan. Heading through the Ishikari Plain will unlock deeper story revelations best experienced by yourself, and it’s also the region in which players can find the Yari Master to unlock a great weapon, along with a Storyteller to get the Tale of the Undying Samurai for some incredible early-game armor. You’ll spend plenty of time in the Ishikari Plain region hunting the Oni, so this is a great place to start and learn more about how the game works and how the story evolves.
You can learn more about the Yotei Six and their locations by fighting enemies and interrogating them, as they will reveal further details that will set markers on your map. After the Oni path, we recommend venturing north to Teshio Ridge to hunt the Kitsune. After, the path will become clearer on where to go next.
Does it Matter Where I Start in Ghost of Yotei?
Truthfully, the order in which you choose to fight the Yotei Six does not matter at all. Players can follow any path they set, or wherever the wind takes them. The game is designed with non-linear paths in mind, but it will also forcefully guide you to places so you don’t venture anywhere too early. Ghost of Yotei is about making your own decisions and following Atsu’s story of vengeance, so feel free to start anywhere and weave between missions, as you’ll find your way eventually. To have the most fun on Ezo, you should simply do quests as you see fit so you don’t feel pressured into following a certain path. This means you should clear out bandit camps, collect bounties, listen to tales, and follow the story at your own leisure by selecting the golden icons and cards on the map.
