Capcom fans got a closer look at Pragmata‘s gameplay in a special online program put together for Tokyo Game Show 2025, showcasing its unique hacking puzzles, approach to combat, and more. Fans will still have to wait until 2026 to take their first dive into the sci-fi world of Pragmata, but Capcom is starting to reveal more details about the upcoming action-adventure game.
Fans have been anticipating the arrival of Pragmata since its initial announcement in 2020. Featuring a pair of cybernetically enhanced protagonists, Hugh and Diana, trying to escape an outer space research station filled with hostile robots, Pragmata was originally planned for release in 2022, but a series of delays, including one in 2023 that saw it seemingly shelved indefinitely, ultimately pushed it back by four years. Fortunately for potential players, an announcement earlier this year stated that the game will be released in 2026.
Pragmata Shows off Hacking Puzzles and More
A nearly three-minute-long trailer for Pragmata kicked off the Capcom Online Program for Tokyo Game Show 2025. Following the two protagonists, the trailer opens up on Hugh and his much younger-looking companion seeking upgrades in a shelter, with Diana uploading a program that lowers enemies’ defenses through a port located in her mouth. Shifting focus to combat, the trailer shows Diana riding on the more heavily equipped Hugh’s shoulder and performing a hack on an enemy robot, as time slows and a screen displays a grid with a series of symbols that the player must navigate through to reach a goal. The end result is that Diana’s hack is successful, greatly increasing the damage that Hugh is able to deal with his pistol.
Additionally, the trailer shows off how Pragmata’s combat gameplay will incorporate multiple different types of hacks and weapons that can provide a number of different benefits. Following the initial hack, Diana is shown to unlock Multihack, an ability that allows her to debuff multiple enemies at once, and one of the grid-based puzzles shows her utilizing a couple of different routes and symbols to perform special actions, like letting Hugh take a flying leap away from an enemy robot’s attack or interfere with their targeting systems. Additionally, Hugh will have a selection of weaponry to choose from, including the Charge Piercer, a rifle that can fire charged energy attacks, and the Decoy Generator, which can provide additional time to set up hacks or attacks.
While the majority of the trailer is intended to give players an idea of the game’s unique approach to combat, it also shares a glimpse at the more human side of the game. The caring relationship between the two protagonists, despite their dangerous circumstance,s has been likened to Ellie and Joel from The Last of Us, and Capcom leaves off with a heartwarmingly upbeat moment of the two plotting a course to their next position.
